Granular Catalytic Activated Coconut Carbon

Granular Catalytic Activated Coconut Shell Carbon is specifically manufactured from high grades of coconut shells. It was designed for the reduction of Chloramines, Hydrogen Sulfides, Hydrogen Peroxides, THMs, TCE, PCE, detergents, pesticides, Phenols, taste and odor. It has a lower ash content and offers a higher adsorption capacity.

Catalytic carbon media is processed to enhance carbon’s natural ability to chemically change contaminants. Catalytic properties can be measured by the rate that carbon decomposes hydrogen peroxide. The ending peroxide number, which should be measured in minutes, will estimate the carbon’s utility in a catalytic application. The lower the peroxide number, the faster catalytic carbon media will break it down, hence the greater catalytic ability.

Chloramine is the disinfecting agent of choice for many water utilities in America. This means many private consumers and businesses need to filter chloramine out of their water, which is more difficult to remove than the previously used chlorine. Standard Granular Activated Carbon has only limited capacity for chloramine removal, but catalytic carbon is very successful at this.

Why Filter Chloramine?

For aquarium owners, this additive is toxic to fish and ponds. Chloramine can also be lethal for patients on dialysis. For the average user, chloramine will not be lethal, but will have a foul taste, odor, and may cause skin irritation. Some people have discovered a severe skin reaction to chloramine and must filter all water used in their home.
