Dissolved organics, pesticides, and taste and odor compounds don't come out of water on their own. Once they're in a water stream, they need to be pulled out mechanically, and that's exactly what Riley Equipment's Liquid Phase Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Vessels are built to do. Also known as GAC vessels, liquid scrubbers, or activated carbon filter vessels, our liquid filtration vessels are used across a wide range of applications, from municipal drinking water systems to industrial process water and food and beverage production.
Whether you rent or purchase, our Liquid Phase Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Vessels are engineered to handle high flow rates without sacrificing contact time or removal efficiency.

Liquid phase granular activated carbon vessels are steel pressure vessels loaded with GAC media that adsorbs dissolved contaminants as water is pumped through the bed. As the liquid stream passes through the carbon, organic compounds, pesticides, and other dissolved substances bind to the surface of the media instead of continuing downstream. Riley Equipment's vessels are built to handle everything from small process streams to high-volume municipal and industrial flows, which is why they're often specified as liquid phase filter vessel systems for facilities that need dependable, repeatable performance day after day.
Liquid phase granular activated carbon vessels are commonly used to treat contaminated water by filtering out dissolved organic compounds. The granular activated carbon media inside the vessel absorbs contaminants from the water as it's pumped through, leaving a cleaner effluent on the other side.
Riley Equipment's RL Series liquid filtration vessels are designed to fit most installation footprints without a major site overhaul. Each vessel is coated on the inside with a long-lasting polyamide epoxy resin and on the outside with a durable epoxy mastic, so the vessel can handle even the harshest liquid streams over the long term. No matter what you're filtering out, or even if you're not yet sure what your process requires, our team can help design a Liquid Phase Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Vessel solution that fits your application.
Whether you need an Empty Bed Contact Time (EBCT) of 25 minutes at 5.34 gallons per minute (gpm) or 213.73 gpm, a 5 minute EBCT at 26.72 gpm or 1,068.65 gpm, or anything in between or beyond, we have a liquid phase carbon vessel to match. The RL Series is available for rent or purchase.
Not every application fits a catalog spec sheet, which is why Riley Equipment offers both standard and custom Activated Carbon Filter vessels. Standard RL Series units cover most common flow rates and installation footprints right out of the gate, while custom-engineered vessels are built around your site's specific flow, pressure, footprint, and media requirements. From connection sizing and internal collector design to coating specifications and skid configuration, our engineering team works directly with your operations, engineering, or procurement team to match the vessel to the process rather than asking the process to fit the vessel.
